- Candidates in the battle for Congress spent the day making their final pitches to voters, according to PBS NewsHour's report by Lisa Desjardins. That followed a weekend of last-minute rallies and a high-profile Democratic defection in Michigan, the network reported.

PBS NewsHour also reported that President Trump delivered his closing message in Washington at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, after days of campaigning in mostly red states.

Fox News reported that Election Day 2026 finds Republicans defending slim majorities, while early voting has broken records with more than 54 million ballots already cast nationwide. The report presents the early voting figures as the leading development in the contest for the chamber majorities.

The New York Times, in a video report, said that although President Trump's name is not on the ballot, voters are weighing the effects of his agenda in Tuesday's midterm elections. Lisa Lerer, a national political reporter for the paper, describes three issues that she says are affecting those decisions.

The accounts differ in emphasis. PBS NewsHour focused on the final campaign events and the president's closing message. Fox News focused on the Republican majorities at stake and the early voting totals. The Times focused on how voters are weighing Trump's agenda.

The reports reviewed do not include election results, and none of the three summaries says how the races will be decided.
