Federal agency rulemaking is often a complex process that seeks to balance the needs of the public with the realities of governance. However, this essential function has become muddied in recent years, as both sides of the political spectrum engage in a tug-of-war that prioritizes ideology over empirical evidence. The left champions progressive values, while the right often clings to deregulation and market freedom. In this environment, the voices of expertise and data-driven decision-making risk being drowned out.

Agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are required to provide a rationale for their rules, often grounded in scientific data and public input. Yet, political pressure can lead these agencies to prioritize certain narratives over others, sometimes resulting in rules that cater more to ideological stances than to the objective evidence at hand.

The Left's Leaning
